ACM risk calculator

This easy-to-use online tool automates the risk assessment of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs), using the VAEA's risk model.

What is the ACM risk calculator?

Developed in collaboration with industry and government, the calculator simplifies asbestos risk assessment for people undertaking asbestos surveys or managing existing workplace asbestos registers.

Upload your ACM data – for example, from a register or spreadsheet – and receive a consistent, objective risk rating for each ACM, based on 4 key factors:

  • condition
  • friability
  • disturbance potential
  • building rating.

The calculator promotes objective risk assessment by leveraging the VAEA’s evidence-based risk model. This ensures a consistent and best practice approach.

Benefits of using the ACM risk calculator

  • Save time and resources: Automate risk assessments for large numbers of ACMs, allowing you to prioritise actions efficiently
  • Consistent results: Eliminate subjectivity and ensure all ACMs are assessed using the same criteria
  • Improved decision-making: Gain a clear understanding of the risk posed by each ACM to inform effective removal plans and safe management before removal
